Education is not a privilege; it is a human right.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Article 26) recognises that everyone has the right to education. Yet, millions of children around the world remain out of school, particularly those living in poor, rural, and underserved communities where access to quality education is limited.
Kiruli Sub-County in Masindi District, Uganda, is one such community where children have historically faced barriers to accessing primary and secondary education. Today, this is changing. In February 2026, Asaba Memorial Education Foundation (AMEF) established Asaba Memorial High School (AMHS) in Kitanyata Village, Kiruli Sub-County, Masindi District. Through this AMEF effort, AMHS is currently the only secondary school within the entire Kiruli Sub-County and surrounding communities, bringing secondary education closer to children who have previously been underserved.
For many children, particularly girls, limited access to secondary education can increase the risk of school dropout, early marriage, and teenage pregnancy. By bringing secondary education closer to the community, AMEF is working to create greater opportunities for children to remain in school and continue their education.
Through AMHS, AMEF is not only expanding access to secondary education but also creating opportunities for young people to learn, develop practical and vocational skills, discover their potential, and become changemakers in their communities.
Our innovative education approach
Knowledge, confidence and practical ability.
At Asaba Memorial Education Foundation (AMEF), we believe that education should go beyond academic knowledge and examination results. It should equip young people with the knowledge, practical skills, confidence, creativity, and problem-solving abilities they need to shape their own futures and contribute positively to their communities.
Through Asaba Memorial High School (AMHS), we are developing an education model that combines the national secondary school curriculum with Project-Based Learning (PBL) and vocational skills training.
Vocationalising secondary education
Practical and employable skills alongside academic study.
Through AMHS, AMEF is vocationalising secondary education by giving students opportunities to learn practical and employable skills alongside their academic studies. This approach enables learners to discover their talents, develop practical competencies, solve real-life problems, and explore pathways towards employment, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance.
Students have opportunities to develop skills in areas such as:

Through Project-Based Learning at AMHS, AMEF encourages students to identify challenges within their school and community, develop ideas, work collaboratively, and create practical solutions. Rather than only learning about problems, students are encouraged to learn by doing.
Brass Band Club (BBC)
Discovering talent through music.
AMEF established the Brass Band Club (BBC) at Asaba Memorial High School (AMHS) to give students an opportunity to discover and develop their talents through music.
The club provides practical training in brass band instruments, music, performance, teamwork, discipline, and leadership. It also creates opportunities for students to perform at school and community events while building confidence and creativity.
Through the Brass Band Club, AMEF aims to use music as a tool for talent development, youth empowerment, cultural expression, and positive community engagement.
School Feeding Programme
Helping vulnerable learners stay in school.
At Asaba Memorial Education Foundation (AMEF), we recognise that hunger and food insecurity can make it difficult for children to attend school regularly, concentrate in class, and remain in education.
Our School Feeding Programme is designed to support vulnerable learners, particularly girls, orphans, and children from low-income families, by providing nutritious meals during the school day. The programme aims to help children stay in school, attend regularly, concentrate on their studies, and complete their education.
Our goal is to help ensure that no child is forced to leave school or miss learning opportunities because of hunger or a lack of food.
Through partnerships with donors, schools, communities, and other organisations, AMEF aims to strengthen and expand the programme so that more vulnerable children can benefit.
Co-curricular development
Holistic learning beyond the classroom.
AMEF promotes talent development and holistic education through co-curricular activities that help students discover and develop their abilities, confidence, creativity, teamwork, and leadership skills.
Activities include Brass Band, Debates, Spelling Bee, Music, Dance and Drama (MDD), Games, and Sports.
International School Exchange Programme
Connecting students in Kiruli with the wider world.
AMEF is a member of the Global Schools Alliance, an alliance that connects schools around the world.
The partnership between AMHS and International Book Project was established through the efforts of AMEF, helping connect AMHS students with students around the world.
Building on these relationships, AMEF seeks to establish further school-to-school exchange partnerships between Asaba Memorial High School and schools in the United States, Canada, Europe, Rwanda, South Africa, and other countries.
These partnerships will provide students and teachers with opportunities to exchange knowledge, culture, ideas, experiences, and learning practices. Through virtual and, where possible, physical exchanges, students can develop global awareness, confidence, communication skills, leadership, and cross-cultural understanding.
Our goal is to connect students in Kiruli with the wider world, create meaningful educational relationships, and inspire young people to become global citizens and changemakers in their communities.

Asaba Memorial Education Foundation (AMEF) recognises that good health is essential for children to learn, families to thrive, and communities to develop. Our Health Programme focuses on improving access to basic healthcare, promoting health education, and supporting prevention and early intervention.

Community Clinic
AMEF plans to establish a community clinic in Kiruli Sub-County to improve access to essential healthcare services for children, young people, families, and surrounding communities.
HIV/AIDS Awareness and Prevention
AMEF plans to introduce community-based HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention programmes, focusing on education, prevention, testing, treatment information, and reducing stigma and misinformation.
School Health and Wellbeing
We aim to promote health and wellbeing among students through health education, hygiene awareness, disease prevention, and activities that encourage healthy lifestyles.
Girls’ Health and Wellbeing
AMEF seeks to support girls with information and awareness on health, hygiene, menstrual health, and other issues that can affect their ability to remain healthy and continue their education.
