Michael Faith dreams of becoming a journalist not only for herself, but to serve others.
“The first time I held the microphone and stood in front of the camera, I was nervous. Now I feel more confident speaking in front of people. I thank AMEF for giving me the tools and opportunity to practise. I want to use journalism to tell stories that matter, speak for people whose voices are often unheard, advocate for girls’ rights and raise awareness about the challenges faced by refugees.”
Her dream is a reminder that when a young girl finds her voice, she can use it to inspire change far beyond herself.
A young journalist in action
Turning a dream into practical experience.
Michael Faith is a 16-year-old S1 student and the current Head Girl of Asaba Memorial High School. Together with her family, she lives in Kyangwali Refugee Settlement in Uganda after being forced to flee the conflict in South Sudan.
Michael dreams of becoming a journalist. At AMHS, she is not only learning about journalism—she is beginning to practise it.
With access to a smartphone and microphone, Michael has started recording, asking questions and practising interviews. One of her most memorable experiences was interviewing the Ugandan Member of Parliament for Buruli County in Masindi District on 17 July 2026. The interview gave her the opportunity to speak directly with a community leader and ask questions with confidence.
“I have always dreamed of becoming a journalist. Before, I was shy when speaking in front of people. Using the microphone and practising interviews has helped me become more confident. Interviewing the Member of Parliament made me believe that my dream is possible.”
For Michael, this is more than a school activity. It is the beginning of her journey towards becoming a journalist.
